Hello, my name is Lady.  About 12 weeks ago my former humans decided they could no longer care for me.  They left me at a night deposit box alone and scared somewhere in Indiana.  In the morning the nice people from the shelter took me in.  They took one look at me and knew I was keeper so they called my new family for help. RASP agreed I was special and came to my aide. The first stop on my long journey was Valparaiso, Indiana. Here I had my eye’s tucked and “female”surgery. Little did anyone know at the time that these two were only the first surgeries I would need.

In early October I joined my foster family, I was so nervous because it was another new place in less than 2 weeks. To my great surprise my foster family included two that looked just like me, only bigger.  I’m told I’m small at about 15”tall (at the most) and 32”lbs. Sometimes I walk underneath my foster brother’s belly, especially when foster mom is handing out cookies.  After a couple of hours letting me check out my new surroundings my foster Dad noticed a “popping”sound coming from me. I wish I could have told them where I hurt, maybe it would have eliminated the need for another trip to the doctor. I got x-rays and to everyone’s surprise I had two ruptured ACL. Both my knees were going to need surgery.

My first surgery was October 24, and boy what a day. My foster mom got me up before the crack of dawn, even though I like to sleep in.  Then we took a nice car ride to Valparaiso, Indiana.  I just slept on the seat, seeing as how if my foster mom had left me alone I would have still been sleeping anyway. After surgery we got back in the car for the ride home.  I hurt so much, all I wanted was my soft pillow. But for some reason my Foster Mom was driving much slower, she said we got stuck in “Chicago”traffic.  I suffered through the longer trip home like a trooper, with little whining even though I was in great pain from my surgery that morning. Here it is almost ten weeks later and I’m getting around great, I’m even taking the stairs on my own without any problems.

I was very shy and unsure of people when I first got to my foster home, but now with all the extra love and attention I’m starting to realize how good life really can be. I still don’t like strangers too much.  I keep my distance until my foster sister and brother check them out.  If they like them, then I go and introduce myself. I have lots of foster nieces and nephews that have come over to visit and I love to play with them all. Thanksgiving was a real treat, I met 28 new people and was giving out kisses to a select few by the time everyone went home.

My favorite things are a soft pillow, gentle head and chin rubs, and any cookies that mom gives out. My foster mom rubs my head and chin and tells me I’m her little “Love Muffin”, I think she’s kind of funny so I give her a kiss every now and again, just so she’ll keep it doing it.  My favorite place to be when I get a “crate break”is by the feet of my foster Dad. Soon I’ll get to start some short walks around the neighborhood.
